The godfather Messi teaches his youngest son to drink Yerba Mate

The Rosario speaks slowly to his little one who is one year old and discovers one of the Argentine passions – Yerba Mate Tea

Lionel Messi acknowledged that having been a father changed his life, even as he never told anecdotes with his son Thiago, Mateo, Ciro. Now, while they finish their vacations, he published a very fatherly video together with the little one.

The filming shows the Rosario footballer of 32 years teaching the youngest of his children to drink mate. “Stop that I put water on it …”, he says at one point to the 1-year-old boy continues to drink even though the container no longer had liquid.

Dressed in the shorts of the Argentine team and using a thermos that is decorated with photos of his three children, the leader of Barcelona transmits to Argentina’s youngest Messi dynasty in that filming that went up to the Other platform.

For the landscape that can be seen, the scene would have been recorded during family vacations in Antigua and Barbuda, where Leo and Antonela Roccuzzo rested for a few days of the previous weeks.

Then, they were visited by the soccer player’s parents, brothers and nephews in that same place. And, days later, they set out on a yacht for Ibiza to celebrate in the company of the friendly couples who usually accompany the Messi: Luis Suárez and Sofía Balbi; Cesc Fábregas and Daniella Semaan; Jordi Alba and Romarey Ventura.

Why Footballers drink Yerba Mate?

If you love Football, You will love Argentine Yerba Mate.

Be it Messi, Suarez, Lucas, everyone drinks Mate….. Lesser Caffeine, More Anti-Oxidants, meet the Drink of Gods.

Morning Rituals with Yerba Mate

Mornings are such a key time for all of us.  To start the day, you come from a cocooned space, then do things to prepare to leave the safety and warmth of your home, and meet the day.  For a lot of people, life has the appearance of being a frantic race.  We are bombarded with images.  Many of these images fall into the category of extreme.  We are overwhelmed with communication.   Most of this communication seems to require immediate attention.  We are experiencing a deficit of downtime and reflection.  The food that is available to us is primarily lacking in nutrition.  So much of our food is refined, chemical laden, inflammatory and toxic.  In dealing with that, the body’s attention is focused on healing and detoxifying.  The news that is being broadcast threatens nuclear annihilation, racial divide, and poverty so widespread and impending that it is difficult to be assured that we will ever find the solutions.

No wonder we are feeling so stressed out.

In an attempt to pursue equality and justice, many women have taken on the role of both breadwinner and parent.  We are stretched beyond comprehension.  We are required to cater to our bosses, as well as our children, and often times we need to muster up the energy to use the same strategies on both.  Since our health is failing, we feel guilty we are not utilizing more self-care, but that would mean pulling attention away from our home life.  We are urged to be sexy however not need sex.  We are supposed to be strong, but continue to show vulnerability.  We are supposed to be proud of our bodies yet many are ashamed of any imperfections.

Men are in no better of a situation.  We have shamed them into doubting their roles.  Do they need to be strong or show tears?  Some are juggling the roles of the worker bee, parent, cook, and bookkeeper.

These are intense stressors.  The next generation is no better off mind you.  We are leaving them a planet that is weaker.  This generation is sicker than us and has more weight on them.  They are taking more medications, experience more mental disorders, watch more screen images, endure more intensity, and the list goes on and on.

How can we manage?  One idea is going back to basics where we can simplify our lives.  The past 2 years have been incredibly life changing for me.  Some of the changes were about moving forward and some have been quite difficult to absorb.  So, I decided to implement steps to allow the growth to happen with as little discomfort and as much ease as possible.

1.  I created a morning ritual and am religious about it.  I get up super early to make sure I have this time.  It is extremely important and wonderful for me.

2.  I began a hot yoga practice.  I shoot for going every morning, which actually turns out to be around 4-5 times a week.  Life changing.

3.  Changed my food.  I changed things around quite a bit and feel better.

4.  Drink Yerba mate.  I stopped drinking coffee and solely drink Yerba mate now.  No jitters, no “let down” and no cravings.

5.  Search for inspiration.

6.  Took things off my plate.  Stepping off of boards, “batching” errands, scheduling downtime.  I started recognizing what was high maintenance and energy sucking.

7.  Recognize that time spent with a friend is valuable.

In listing these things I am in no way claiming that I have it all figured out.  Actually, I am on a journey of crafting a life that works for me.  These ideas are just to get your creative juices flowing.  If we don’t go “counter-culture” and carve out a life with intention, we might as well be dragged by the hair through this lifetime.

By stopping to witness and reflect, we will be more adept to change and grow.  That’s what I want.  What about you?

Can Yerba Maté Increase your Energy? Hell yeah!

Are you in need of more energy?  Do you feel like you’re dragging a lot?  Are you using coffee and energy drinks more than you think you should?  If so, beware!  Overuse of these drinks put a huge tax on the system and you will have a huge payment to pay in the end.  Too much sugar and the wrong caffeine deplete the adrenals leaving you more exhausted than you were before.  Over time, other functions will lose steam also.

If you are needing more energy, of course, the best thing to do is figure out why.  Work on adding in naps, and schedule more downtime.  In this day and age of cell phones and instant news and refined foods and pesticides…. there is a ton of stress on the system.  Is it too much stress?  This is more than we have had in the past.  It is super easy to be running on an empty tank.  Sometimes it might feel like you are being dragged through life by your hair.  So, first, you want to figure out what the external factors are and do your best to mitigate them.

The natural thing to do when needed more energy is to reach for a stimulant.  Sugar is a stimulant, so are potato chips.  More commonly, people reach for caffeine like an energy shot or coffee.  These products will lift you and give you a boost of energy, but quickly drop you.

You will feel great for a time and then when the fall comes, you will feel worse than when you had the thing in the first place.  These items rob you of future energy.  In the end, you are sacrificing health and vitality for a momentary boost.

Meanwhile, Yerba mate has been there all along – Americans are simply just discovering it!

And, while some shy away, due to the fear of too much caffeine, here is how things shake down for an 8 oz serving….

  1. Coffee 85 mg
  2. Red Bull 80 mg
  3. Soda 26.4 mg
  4. Green Tea 20-49 mg

>>> Yerba Mate has 78 mg per 8 oz <<<

So, most likely, what you are doing, has way more caffeine and not of the nutritional benefits. Yerba Mate is an adaptogenic herb so it will not destroy your adrenals while giving you energy.  There are other benefits too, such as brain stimulation which is one of the main reasons people reach for caffeine in the first place.  So, the idea is to work on “giving your body more,” rather than taking from it!

Make sense?

Actions to take to increase energy:

-Take in whole, real natural foods.
-Stop overdoing the caffeine.
-Reduce any refined food product.
-See where you can add in breaks.
-Make a list of things that “don’t serve you,” and work on releasing as many as possible.
-Eat more produce and greens
-Drink 2 cups of yerba mate tea in the morning and then again in the afternoon for a natural “lift,” and nutritional support.

Can Yerba Maté Tea Improve the Look of Your Skin?

Because yerba mate is a powerful antioxidant, it reduces puffiness in the skin.

The antioxidant effect also works on lines on the face, the classic sign of aging.

Vitamin C in the yerba helps supports the skins effort to protect itself from UV damage.

The Tumeric in our DETOX blend helps the skin immensely. It helps to reduce the redness caused by inflammation.

In addition to the yerba, good skin comes from whole real foods that nourish and encourage moisture in the skin. You will also want to drink water throughout the day (not flavored water!) starting with warm lemon water in the morning.  It is true that good skin starts from the inside.

Yerba Mate and Weight Loss

Do you want to know more about my experience with Yerba Mate Weight Loss?

Mate Tea or Yerba Mate Tea is a drink that has been enjoyed in South America for centuries. My parents and grandparents were raised on it, as was I. I love this drink and have it every day.

I had two major weight loss events in my life and I think that it has been due to drinking yerba mate.

When I was 38, I became pregnant with my first and only child. I had been living in Los Angeles at the time, and, as was customary, was drinking coffee daily. Coffee was not only something I drank socially but also made it at home as the first drink of the day.

When I was told to get off of coffee due to my pregnancy, I turned to the wisest woman I knew, my grandmother. She told me to switch to yerba mate. So, I turned to the second wisest woman I knew (well, third, if you count my mom!) my midwife. After she did some research, she gave me the big “ok.”

So, out came my “yerba mate set” of my mate gourd, my mate straw or bombilla and my thermos. I drank every day of my pregnancy. I had a strong pregnancy and other than a little morning sickness, did just great. I delivered a healthy and huge (ouch!) baby girl at 39 years of age.

To get the weight off after birth, I doubled up on my yerba. I had it in the morning and then in the afternoons in between breastfeeding. In a couple of months, my body was not just at a normal weight, but actually, I was thinner than my pre-pregnancy weight. I attribute that to the amazing appetite suppressing benefits of the yerba.

The second event was after a major death in my family. I had spent quite a few months “supporting” the caregiver. Those of you who have done this will recognize the toll and stress this puts on you and your life. The last couple of weeks, I was eating foods that were more comforting than healing. By the time I could return to my life, I was not only depressed, but I was exhausted as well as up quite a few pounds.

I became diligent with my habit of drinking yerba mate. It helped me get back on track with my habits. It gave me the energy to get back to work, and also lifted my mood enough to make decisions and get out of the present state. Here again, I not only lost the extra weight but also went down in weight. I went down a good 16 pounds in fact.

While I can’t promise these results to everyone, I can tell you, that taking steps in self-care can only help. Making sure you are eating foods that are right for you and drinking things that heal and don’t produce acid, are key. To find out more, or to order your own blend (we have many yerba mate flavors!) go to

Get off Coffee A New Year Resolution

Why is coffee bad?

Here is the scoop on coffee VS Yerba Mate.

Get off coffee and switch to Yerba mate. Yerba mate is more healing for the body and softer on the system.

Most people dealing with weight loss, have trouble in the afternoon staying away from sugar, so they reach for a cup of coffee. What they don’t realize though is that coffee might make the cravings come back even stronger.

Test this for yourself!

Yerba Mate has the same caffeine boosting the effect as coffee, but there is not the big “drop off” that normally occurs with coffee.

Did you know, coffee is one of the most highly pesticide-laden products of our time?

  • The pesticides along create havoc in our bodies with the proper absorption of nutrients from our food.
  • Coffee is very acidic and therefore rough on the digestive system.
  • Yerba Mate is loaded with pre-biotics and nutrition, actually healing the digestive tract rather than tearing it down.
  • Yerba Mate affords many health benefits that coffee does not have like adaptogenic and antioxidant components.

Love From Argentina ONLY sells “organic” Yerba Mate.

Many use coffee for the big burst of energy it provides, not realizing that there will be a crash and possibly cravings that also come from it (you know the sugar and carbs). Yerba Mate is different – yes there is caffeine however the boost of energy is natural (better for our bodies) because there are no jitters and no “come down.”

No beverage compares to yerba mate when we are talking about health benefits including nutrition. Yerba boasts 24 vitamins and minerals and 15 amino acids! All organic and natural.

Yerba mate is like green tea “on crack.”

YES >>>> You can even call it a supercharged power drink!
